A Legacy You Can’t Make Up:
The Gibbs Family

Long before Young Life appeared on a race car, it showed up in the Gibbs family home.

Coach Joe Gibbs and his wife Pat believed in kids, relationships, and pointing young people toward Jesus. So, they opened their Virginia home to Young Life club, where their son, J.D. Gibbs, became very involved with his best friend, Dave Alpern. They showed up to everything and invited their friends along.

After college, J.D. co-founded Joe Gibbs Racing with his father. Dave joined him — eventually becoming President of JGR. Through it all, Young Life remained a constant.

“The most important thing we leave on this earth is the influence we’ve had on others.”
— Joe Gibbs

"JD was a consistent, faithful friend, who loved Jesus first and foremost. He lived it out, he didn’t just alk about it. JD was my picture of what it was to follow Jesus in high school, in business, as a dad and as a man.”

THE NEXT GENERATION:
Miller Gibbs and Brent Crews

Miller Gibbs, J.D.’s son and Coach Gibbs’ grandson, experienced Windy Gap just like his dad. He now volunteers with Young Life, walking alongside kids the same way others once walked with him.

Before the season started, Miller took Brent Crews, Young Life’s 2026 NASCAR Xfinity Series driver, to Young Life weekend camp at Windy Gap. At 17 years old, Brent not only gets to step into the NASCAR world, but gets to become a part of a story that only God could write.

This is discipleship in motion.

HONORING J.D.’S LEGACY:

The J.D. Gibbs Campership Legacy Fund

When J.D. passed away unexpectedly in 2019 at just 49 years old, his influence didn’t stop – it multiplied.

Because he and others believed deeply that every kid deserves a chance to experience camp, Young Life launched the The J.D. Gibbs Campership Legacy Fund. Every gift helps remove financial barriers and get kids to the feet of Jesus.

Every gift directly supports kids attending Young Life camp.

Because the greatest victories don’t happen on a track — they happen in the hearts of kids.

A WOMAN’S LEGACY:
Melissa Gibbs

Carrying legacy forward with courage and faith.

In a male-dominated sport, Melissa Gibbs, J.D.’s wife and Miller’s mom, is lifting a different kind of legacy — one rooted not in racing, but in faith, generosity, and eternal impact.

Her passion for Young Life, women’s engagement, and philanthropic leadership reflects her desire to see J.D.’s life honored beyond wins and titles, into the Kingdom of God.

Through initiatives likeYoung Life’s A Widow’s Wayand women-led generosity, Melissa’s voice is shaping what legacy looks like when faith leads the way.
