Accident at Carolina Point

Press Release

Colorado Springs, Colo. -- We are saddened to report that on Monday afternoon, July 13, Olivia Paige Grimes died as a result of falling from the swing she was riding at Carolina Point. All of us at Carolina Point and across Young Life grieve with this young woman’s family and friends. Young Life takes full responsibility for this tragic accident, and we will respond appropriately. Swings and challenge courses at Young Life camps have always been certified as meeting or exceeding Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) standards, and we will continue to rely on industry experts as we create the safest possible environment for our camp guests. While literally hundreds of thousands of teenagers have enjoyed a safe and fun experience on our camp challenge courses, Young Life has ceased operation of camp swings at every property as we continue an evaluation process in an effort to ensure that such an accident never occurs again. We remain deeply saddened by the loss we have all experienced, and we pray for comfort and healing for the Grimes family and for all involved.
