Young Life President Emeritus, Denny Rydberg, Passes Away at the Age of 74

Denny4-(002).pngYoung Life’s longest serving president, Denny Rydberg (Feb. 3, 1945 – May 16, 2019), passed away yesterday. Having served 23 years in the post, Young Life’s fifth president not only led the mission toward greater unity and focus, he helped the mission grow at unprecedented rates in every major ministry category.

As the President of Young Life from 1993-2016, Rydberg led the ministry through a period of unprecedented growth, expanding global outreach from 25 countries to 101 countries and reaching millions of kids with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

In reflecting on the impact of his predecessor, Young Life President Newt Crenshaw said, “Denny Rydberg’s impact on so many lives is hard to measure. Beyond the numbers are countless lives that have changed because Denny and Marilyn faithfully and tirelessly pursued the simple idea that every young person has the right to hear about a God who loves them more than they know. Denny saw his role as building on the work of the past, and I am honored and grateful to follow in his footsteps as we continue the work to which he gave so much.”

Young Life is a worldwide organization for middle school, high school and college students. Our staff and volunteers enter the world of kids, focusing on what matters to them — fun, adventure and friendship. In doing so, we earn the privilege of talking to them about something we think matters most of all — the truth about God and His love for them. Founded in 1941, Young Life has more than 5,400 staff and over 80,000 volunteers active in more than 100 countries and reaching more than 2.6 million kids annually. Young Life leaders bring more than 260,000 kids each year to one of our 33 camps worldwide.
