Staff Associate — Reno/Sparks, NV

Reno/Sparks Young Life is looking for a dynamic, vibrant personality to join the team of Young Life and WyldLife ministries in area schools.

Reno/Sparks Young Life has a long history of more than 40 years and includes Young Life College, Young Life, WyldLife, and the potential for much more. The area encompasses close to 15 middle schools and 24 high schools plus another community college. We are looking for a full-time staff associate. This person should be a self-starter with a high sense of drive, innovation and missional mindset to reach the next kid and expand the growing ministry at Wooster High School and Vaughn Middle School.

Both Vaughn Middle School and Wooster High School offer magnet programs because of the pre-IB and International Baccalaureate programs. Vaughn Middle School has a total minority enrollment of 83%, and 72% of the students are economically disadvantaged. Wooster High School has a total minority enrollment of 78%, and 46% of the students are economically disadvantaged.

Young Life has great relationships with students, teachers and administration at both schools. These two schools have had strong Young Life/WyldLife ministries over the years and need a leader to develop this re-ignited flagship ministry!

Responsibilities:

Christian Faith
  • Has a relationship with Jesus Christ and is actively growing in ways outside of the Young Life ministry.
  • Grasps the idea of “relational ministry” and earning the right to be heard in the community.
  • Spiritually develops volunteer leaders and students in the local area. Develops a thought-out vision and plan for spiritual growth.
Volunteer Development/Direct Ministry
  • Able to inspire and cast vision, inviting new volunteers and leaders into the ministry while giving them ownership and helping them to develop as leaders.
  • Desires to invest in students across 6th-12th grade, working with both the WyldLife and Young Life programs.
  • Models consistency and excellence in building relationships with students, programmatic events including club, Campaigners, outreach-related activities, leader meetings and committee meetings, which are often night-time meetings.
  • Works with the area director to develop a training program to help volunteers become excellent in their roles and with students.
  • Works with the area director to execute a camp strategy that maximizes students' opportunities to respond and react to the Christian faith, which includes weeklong summer camping, weeklong discipleship camping, and weekend camping trips throughout the year as scheduled, plus maximizing opportunities to bring adventure to kids in the Sierra Mountains.
Resource Development 
  • Works with the area director with committee projects and gains experience leading with the committee to partner with them to raise the local area budget as well as maintaining it with stewardship capability.
  • Works with the area director to develop and execute a financial strategy to achieve budgetary goals, including personal fundraising, fundraising events, and gathering area donations.
  • Develops a communication plan for the ministry to reach new and current parents, students, leaders, school administration and committee.
National, Divisional and Regional Responsibilities
  • Pursues national, divisional and regional trainings as assigned.
  • Travels when necessary throughout the year.
  • Attends month-long assignments at Young Life properties in the summer when assigned.
  • Some of these responsibilities require travel, overnight stays, etc. throughout the year.

Qualifications:

  • A healthy, growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • A highly-motivated passion for ministry in a diverse community.
  • Bilingual, speaking both Spanish and English.
  • A desire to inspire and motivate volunteers and students in the ministry.
  • The ability to lead spiritually across the spectrum from students to committee.
  • Young Life volunteer leader experience (student staff or equivalent experience preferred).
  • Proven relational and leadership skills with both kids and adults.
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Willingness to raise personal financial support.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Commitment to making an impact on the Reno/Sparks community.
