Director of NYC Development — New York, NY

​The director of NYC Development will raise critical funds and build multiple revenue streams to support staff and grow the ministry in NYC, as well as develop and oversee a world-class team of development professionals. The director of Development will help us build programs in major donor caseload giving, institutional giving, events, and multi-channel giving — that will support our staff and grow our footprint. This man or woman will be an experienced professional looking for a major challenge who knows how to build a development staff and feels called to the challenge.

Responsibilities:

  • ​Create a plan to originate new major gift relationships and cultivate and solicit gifts at the major gift level.
  • Create a plan to achieve goals and review revenue and expenses regularly with the vice president of NYC Initiative.
  • Create a plan with specific monthly goals for cultivation of a case load of at least 25 donors.
  • Take primary responsibility for managing and achieving the development team's annual revenue goal.
  • Cultivate, grow, supervise and lead development team members in NYC.
  • Actively lead and participate in team meetings and team initiatives as a servant leader and team player.
  • Through existing donors, personal contacts, networking with friends, attendance at appropriate events and speaking opportunities, find new donors, introduce them and add them to caseload on a regular basis.
  • Conduct research on both existing and new caseload donors and set realistic annual goals for their contributions.
  • Make monthly contact using personal notes, emails, stories, testimonies, small events, vision trips and volunteer opportunities.
  • Build relationships with field staff and partner accordingly, to grow major donors and ensure personal connections and stories.
  • Make appropriate introductions to senior management and attractive periodic asks to draw donors further into the ministry and maximize their potential as donors.

Qualifications:

  • ​Experienced development professional ready for a challenge! 
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five to 10 years' experience of demonstrated success cultivating high capacity donors and generating substantial annual revenue.
  • Comfort and experience asking donors for financial and personal involvement​.
  • Exceptional leadership ability to positively impact strategic and tactical major gift program.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships and partnerships across organizational lines.
  • Relationally-driven and possess strong interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Humble self-confidence and presence to promote our ministry effectively to accomplished professionals.
  • Able to cast vision and inspire donors' confidence and trust in Young Life.
  • Adaptable and enjoys playing a role in shaping and growing the development function of the ministry.
  • Solid, visible relationship with Christ evidenced by a heart for God, yielding a genuine, deep love for others.
