Development Director — Chicago, IL

Our structure allows for a collaborative regional team and a close partnership with the regional director. Young Life experience is not required, but representing Young Life in a way that is consistent with the ethos of the organization will be important. Young Life has a remarkably loyal donor base that has largely been under-engaged.

Historically we have operated with year-to-year budgets raised by area directors and local committees. This model has worked well in financially resourced communities and has fallen short in less financially resourced communities. In Chicagoland we have done some things to address this, but we are prepared to hire a development director and move us forward in ways that could revolutionize Young Life in Chicago forever.

We believe a fully focused development director could build off a strong, under-engaged list of donors and invite them into transformational giving in order to offer Young Life to every kid in Chicagoland regardless of zip code.

Primary Responsibilities: Leading the Chicagoland FORWARD Campaign to raise $10 million over the next five years alongside the regional director leadership in the planning and execution of the annual citywide gala.

Potential Secondary Responsibilities: Leadership of the junior board and the engagement of young professionals' fundraising training and development of Young Life staff throughout the region.

Important Attributes:

  • The development director will represent Young Life to our largest stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have previous experience in development.
  • Be self-directed.
  • Be culturally intelligent in order to effectively raise money for less financially resourced communities in a way that is dignifying to the communities we serve.
  • Represent Young Life well.
