College Director — Denver, CO

​We are looking for an experienced staff person to join our staff as the Young Life College director at the University of Denver (DU). DU is a private university in the city of Denver with a population of 6,000 undergrad and 6,000 graduate students. This person is a self-starter with a high sense of drive and a missional mindset. He or she loves the Lord and has a growing spiritual life outside of the ministry. This person possesses the perseverance to ask, inspire and motivate adults and students in the ministry. He or she must be able to multitask and prioritize what is necessary for the ministry at any given time. We are looking for someone who is mature in his or her faith and looking to help others do the same. Able to excel at the bearing points of the ministry: Spiritual Growth, Committee, Ministry, Leadership, and Fundraising.

Responsibilities:

Spiritual/Personal Development

  • Spend regular time in prayer, Scripture study, and community with other believers to promote healthy work-life balance.
  • Meet regularly with mentor (who is not a supervisor or co-worker) for discipleship and spiritual growth.
  • Meet bi-weekly with the supervisor (area director) for supervision and professional mentoring.
  • Attend the annual Young Life College Summit, which includes orientation for new staff associates.

Regional Training

  • Work with the regional trainer to complete selections from Leadership I and II to gain theological training and learn to apply Young Life methodology to Young Life College.
  • Participate in regional training events at the discretion of the trainer and regional director.

Leadership Development

  • On a regular basis, meet with leaders with whom you work in club.
  • Attend area leadership and be involved as assigned.
  • Learn principles of recruitment and training of new leaders.
  • Meet with each volunteer leader once a quarter.

Direct Ministry

  • Be active in all three levels of contact work.
  • Lead a team to plan and implement large group.
  • Oversee all life groups and lead a life group.
  • Plan and lead breakfast club, which is a weekly discipleship class.

Camping

  • Plan and execute camping strategy (e.g., the following trips):
    • ​Fall Retreat: Outreach.
    • Crooked Creek Work Crew Weekend: Outreach and Discipleship.
    • January Winter Break: Discipleship Trip.
    • Spring Break: Outreach and Discipleship.
    • Spring Overnight: Discipleship/Student Leaders.
    • Summer Staff: Discipleship.
    • Summer Staff Training.
    • Follow up with students who attend:
      • Lead Group of Student Leaders: Meet with all leaders twice a month before large group.
      • Meet one-on-one one time a month.

Resource Development

  • Observe, learn principles and develop relationships with key adults in the community.
  • Cultivate, coordinate and manage the mission community meeting (committee): once a month meetings with adults in the community.
  • Meet with a different member twice a month.
  • Continue to cultivate relationships with churches in the area.
  • Raise $35-40K of personal support.
  • Fundraising.
  • DU fundraising: ($30k).
    • Chili cook-off event and additional fundraiser in the Spring.

  • Follow up with donors (e.g., quarterly emails, thank you’s).

Ministry Support

  • Manage the DU budget.
  • Manage LISTSERV of students/student progression.
  • Communication to team, students, etc.
  • Assist local areas (Cherry Creek schools and Littleton).
  • Recruit and train leaders.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years experience on Young Life staff.
  • Finished majority of Phase I training.
  • $40,000+ of personal fundraising support.
  • A four-year college degree prior to start date.
  • College ministry experience preferred.
  • A vital, growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Ability and desire to minister to college-aged individuals (one-on-one and in small/large groups).
  • Proven relational and communication skills with both students and adults.
  • Strong administrative skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, adapt and be flexible.
