Young Life seeks to build the next great camp on the banks of the Gauley River in Summersville, W.V. We are calling this camp Wild Ridge. Five million dollars has been raised to complete Phase I to purchase 1,100 acres of land where thousands of adolescents will encounter the love of Christ like never before. History will show that this camp, through the power of the Holy Spirit, will change the world for Christ.

As Young Life enters Phase II of the project, we seek to raise 30 million dollars to build a camp that will host 200 campers and leaders on a weekly basis throughout the summer camping season, as well as provide year-round camping experiences. Phase III will consist of raising an additional 20 million to complete the project that will host 500 campers and leaders weekly.

With that in mind, coupled with this gathering momentum and nearly unlimited potential, Young Life is looking for a leader who can build an economic engine with a dedicated volunteer team and multiple revenue streams. This man or woman will be an experienced professional who is looking for a major challenge, and knows how to build a development program, and feels called to the challenge.

The Wild Ridge campaign director will help us build programs in major donor giving, institutional giving, events and multi-channel giving — that will support our staff and build Wild Ridge Camp.

Responsibilities:

A. Case Development
  1. Ensure the campaign case(s) are complete and include all key components, especially the budget section and the gift plan.
  2. Invite the Young Life Communications department to bid on case material.
  3. Include a planned giving into the conversation.
  4. Ensure that all presentation tools for funding the campaign flow from the case statement and are personalized to target constituencies (e.g., individuals and families, foundations/corporations, churches, etc.).

B. Funding Campaign Operations

  1. Ensure that a campaign budget is developed and includes the cost of development, communication and data management and is approved by the chief development officer (CDO).
  2. Place any excess revenue for campaign operations in an account for ongoing fund development work at the camp.

C. Campaign Management

  1. Oversee a feasibility study to determine the financial goal for the campaign or other due diligence.
  2. Use YL Network to manage the campaign.
  3. Set the timetable for the campaign and the monthly targets to be met to reach the goal.
  4. In terms of accountability for the campaign, decision-making is always the campaign director’s (CD) responsibility, and the CDO is responsible for supporting the CD to make sure tasks are completed on time and reported to the appropriate staff and/or volunteers.
  5. Keep the SVP and the Executive Campaign Committees (ECC) chair in the know of all communications.

D. Ongoing Responsibilities

  1. Develop prospects (working with regional directors, ECC and SVP) and when appropriate act as a primary caller or a secondary caller available to participate in donor solicitation meetings.
  2. Participate in the recruiting of the needed committees and volunteer positions. Lead, train, supervise, support, sustain and thank this staff so that they succeed in their work.
    • ​A volunteer executive committee led by a chair to raise major gifts ($50K and higher).
    • A steering committee of staff and volunteers to guide campaign operations.

  3. Plan and carry out all supporting activities for the campaign such as donor events, communications strategies (including communication with appropriate staff), and recognition programs and other related activities and materials.
  4. Coordinate campaign activities with other Young Life development entities (e.g., area and regional fundraising efforts, other development initiatives, etc.).
  5. Submit the updated YL Network Opportunities database to the CDO monthly.
  6. Submit the updated campaign timetable to the CDO monthly.
  7. Submit the database prospect report to the CDO in June to support the goal for the following fiscal year.
  8. Work closely with the executive assistant to the CDO for any assistance and to keep the CDO apprised of all campaign developments and issues in a timely fashion.
  9. Establish the campaign office and systems to support campaign operations.
  10. Each campaign director is responsible to work each fiscal year with their team, in conjunction with regional directors, including their SVP and the executive director of the Young Life Foundation, for the purpose of securing “planned gifts” for the benefit of ​the mission (and this capital project). Examples of those gifts would include Campership Legacy Fund, gifts of real property/business interests, life-income arrangements, gifts through wills/trusts, etc.

E. Working in Conjunction with Regional Directors

  1. Work with regions in their Development efforts (PPL, YL Network, Data Analytics, Top 20, Case, Vision).
  2. Attend regional meetings as schedule permits — able to articulate TDS, working with donors, cases, visions, and core values and principles of working with major donors.
  3. Engage regional directors on campaigns as works with their territory, vicinity, desire and gifting.
  4. Work with regional directors to fulfill the ECC — with their folks of capacity, desire and gifting.


Qualifications:

Education
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • CFRE certification preferred.

Experience Required for the Job

  • ​Extensive Young Life knowledge.
  • Minimum five to seven years of direct line fundraising experience managing a defined portfolio of donors/prospects.
  • Extensive Taking Donors Seriously® knowledge, or “Moves Management.”
  • Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to interface with a sophisticated donor audience.
  • Able to give spiritual leadership.
  • Able to work effectively with all field staff and their supervisors.
  • Able to work effectively as a team member with Development Services staff.
  • Proficiency in Excel or other reporting applications that demonstrate the ability to become proficient in ASIST (online PPL, Cash Flow and other Young Life-owned applications) as well as Development Services third-party Customer Relationship Management tool — Salesforce, YL Network.
  • Previous Young Life field experience or non-profit fund development experience required.
