Area Director I or II — Springfield, OR

Description:

​Young Life has a long history in Springfield, reaching kids at three of the four middle schools and at two local high schools. YoungLives ministry is growing, and there is a concerted effort to reach multiethnic kids at all our schools. The area director is moving, so we are seeking an area director to join our team of committee and volunteers, mission staff, administrator and several student staff.

Responsibilities:

​Spiritual Development – focuses individual and team efforts on “following Jesus” through the Essential Work of …
  • Practicing prayer and spiritual disciplines through the use of individual and communal prayer, Scripture, worship, fasting, etc.
  • Promoting growth and health in Young Life ministry spiritually, emotionally and socially.
  • Establishing church relationships through regular worship and positive ministry relationships with local congregations.
Leadership Development – “developing committee, kids, leaders and staff for the mission” through the Essential Work of …
  • Recruiting the people and talents needed for expanding and accomplishing the area’s work.
  • Teambuilding and training a thriving Young Life ministry by recruiting, mobilizing and retaining individuals to carry out the work of the area.
  • Direct Ministry – Carry out the Young Life Mission Statement as a “player-coach” leading and modeling through contact work, club, camp, Campaigners and church.
Resource Development – focuses on “fueling the ministry” by acquiring time, talent and funds through the Essential Work of …
  • Donor relationships that provide a personal touch to each donor two times annually to update, thank and “ask” on behalf of Young Life.
  • Public relations build the Young Life brand as an excellent tool for working with adolescents in the community.
Ministry Support – focuses on administrative systems needed to support the core functions of Young Life ministry through the Essential Work of ...
  • Plan communication and implement a strategy for timely information to all staff and leaders for effective operation of area ministries.
  • Implement and develop a Strategic Plan for the future that aligns with the mission goals of Young Life.
  • Area director develops systems and teams to maintain a reputation for administrative excellence in the area.

Qualifications:

  • ​College degree and five years of youth ministry experience preferred.

Notes:

Springfield, a city of approximately 60,000, is nestled in the southern Willamette Valley of Oregon, next door to the college town of Eugene. Portland, Ore., is approximately 100 miles north, and the Oregon Coast is 70 miles to the west. With the University of Oregon nearby, Springfield has a lively college-town feel, while also being a great place to raise a family. Recreational activities abound, from hiking and skiing in the Cascade Range, to water sports on the Willamette and McKenzie Rivers, to fun activities on the beautiful Oregon Coast, to arts, theater, shops and restaurants in town. Young Life has a long-standing history in the area of 62 years of consistent ministry. Neighboring Eugene also has a vibrant Young Life ministry, along with a growing college ministry at the University of Oregon.
