Area Director I or II — Alexandria, MN

Description:

We are seeking an area director who has the vision to build an active Young Life ministry to reach students who live in our community. A dedicated start-up committee has assembled to pray, raise funds, create community awareness, and develop volunteer leaders. We have built a strong foundation to welcome and support an area director who is eager and motivated to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. The job will require a passion for developing and recruiting adult leaders to grow and sustain the ministry, as well as excellent communication and organization with both students and adults. With an authentic focus on Jesus, both personally and in the community, the area director will work with the committee to develop strategies to initiate and sustain the growth, health and development of Alexandria Area Young Life.

Responsibilities:

  • Spiritual leadership, supervision, training and recruitment of leaders.
  • Care for leaders and ensure the health of the ministry.
  • Good working relationship with the committee.
  • Organized and efficient communication with donors, committee, parents and leaders.
  • Intentionally develop and grow relationships with area churches, other ministries and organizations.
  • Area resource development as well as personal donor development. Must raise $15,000 in personal support.
  • Participation in annual staff events and training events.
  • Initiate and foster relationships with all constituents through a systematic cultivation plan designed to increase support of Young Life.
  • Maximize community partnerships, engage volunteers and cultivate and solicit top donors and community leaders.
  • Interpret the work of Young Life to the community and ensure its cause, vision, values and goals are understood.

Qualifications:

  • Deep, abiding faith in Jesus Christ, overflowing to a love for people.
  • Proven relational skills with adolescents, young adults and adults.
  • Demonstrated predisposition to build relationships with and collaborate with church ministries, para-church ministries, community organizations, schools, other not-for profits, and businesses.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven understanding of non-profit finances, budgeting, fundraising and financial development.
  • Demonstrated experience of board and volunteer development.
  • Heart for kids of all backgrounds, races, cultures and circumstances.
  • Ability to articulate a clear vision and mission on behalf of Young Life.
  • Young Life experience as staff, a camper, volunteer or leader preferred.
  • Minimum of two years full-time Young Life staff experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • More than 100 local adults have attended a Young Life informational meeting.
  • A committee of 10 adults meets monthly and works and prays diligently.
  • The committee has raised more than $85,000 in preparation for an area director despite the pandemic and difficult economic times.
  • Seven volunteer adults are meeting to pray and learn about contact work with local students.
  • 14 local students attended camp at Castaway this past summer.
  • Created an advisory board of community leaders and influencers.
  • We are looking to welcome an area director who has the desire and ability to integrate into a community of adults who offer encouragement, prayer and active support to each other.
