Area Director — Washington Heights/Inwood in Manhattan, NY


​​Young Life in Washington Heights and Inwood has a rich history. The area director will build on that history and take the ministry to new places and spaces. Located at the northernmost tip of Manhattan, Washington Heights and Inwood are the vibrant communities which, for the last 40 years, has been epicenter of Dominican culture in the United States. With elements of its roots in the Irish, Jewish and Russian cultures still in tact, this is a diverse community. In recent years the community has also seen an influx of young families looking for the last open spaces in Manhattan.

There is an existing and supportive local board (committee) and many dedicated volunteer Young Life leaders in Washington Heights and Inwood who are excited about continuing their work with kids in this bustling Uptown NYC community.


Spiritual Development — “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships.

Leadership Development — “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.

Resource Development — “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding), and leading a fundraising team.

Direct Ministry — “Proclaiming and discipling” includes contact work, club, Campaigners (e.g., small group ministry), camp, mentoring, programmatic efforts (sports, arts, academic, etc.).

Ministry Support — “Taking care of business” includes accounting, administration, communication (internal and external), data management, and pursuing a strategic plan.


  • If needed, New Staff Training is required. Area Director School is required.
  • Participation in required fundraising training with a sustainable goal of $30K in personal fundraising.
  • Participation in additional training or experiences deemed necessary.
  • At the regional director’s prerogative, certain regional training events will be required.
  • Encouragement to pursue continuing educational opportunities including graduate degrees.
  • Encouragement to pursue seminars designed to enhance professional skills.
  • Encouragement to participate in programs designed for personal spiritual maturity or personal enrichment.


  • ​Candidate must be bi-lingual (English/Spanish).
  • College degree preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in developing people.
  • An obvious demonstration of love for Jesus, then love for others, then love for Young Life.
  • Ministry experience preferred but not required.
  • Preferred candidate will currently be or willing to reside in the Washington Heights or Inwood community.
