​Palo Alto is a city of 70,000 that lies in the heart of the Silicon Valley between San Francisco and San Jose. The school system in Palo Alto is among the most diverse in the country, both ethnically and economically. The two public high schools are the #1 and #3 ranked public schools in the state of California. The tight schedules and high pressure of this academic culture brings an added dimension to the ministry challenge.

Young Life in Palo Alto has historically reached kids across the entire ethnic, economic and faith background spectrums. Current scope of ministry includes Young Life at two public high schools, WyldLife at three public middle schools, and Young Life College at Stanford University. Area staff includes a direct ministry staff with dual responsibilities between Young Life College and one public high school. There is strong potential for a WyldLife mission staff. Solid financial support for Young Life exists in the community, but adult/committee involvement has been impacted by the pace and demands of the area culture. Proven success in engaging and maintaining adult volunteers is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate spiritual leadership on a personal and corporate level.
  • Supervise and develop a direct ministry staff person with dual responsibilities between Young Life College and one high school club.
  • Potential supervision of a WyldLife mission staff person.
  • Develop and sustain adult community volunteers including committee.
  • Recruit, train and sustain leaders.
  • Develop an area vision and strategic plan.
  • Oversee and participate in the resource development of the area.
  • Participate in dynamic direct ministry with kids.
  • Build a team to handle the administrative tasks of the job.
  • Participation and leadership in annual staff events and training events.

Qualifications:

  • Deep, abiding faith in Jesus Christ and love for people.
  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • Proven successful pastoral, leadership, vision and team building skills.
  • Area director experience of at least three to five years.
  • Understanding of finances and budgets.
  • Demonstrated area fundraising success.
  • Personal fundraising ability.
  • Self-starter.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates excellence in verbal and written communication skills, especially as it pertains to parents and adults.
  • College degree.
