Area Director — Newberg, OR

​Newberg, Ore., home of Newberg Young Life, is a mostly suburban area located south of Portland, Ore., in the Willamette Valley with a rich tradition of Young Life, and they are seeking a high capacity and experienced area director to lead the Young Life ministry there. With almost 20 years of Young Life history, Newberg Young Life has a strong base of financial support, community ties, and a solid volunteer leadership base due mostly to the number of quality volunteers coming from George Fox University in Newberg. Current ministries include one high school club​, one middle school club, one Young Life College and a Capernaum ministry.

The primary responsibilities include leader development and church relationships, as well as direct ministry and ministry support of Newberg Young Life. The job will require a passion for developing and recruiting leaders to grow and sustain the ministries, as well as a demonstration of excellent communication skills with both kids and adults. With an authentic focus on Jesus, both personally and in the community, the area director will work with Newberg Young Life's part-time staff, committee and leadership teams in developing strategies to promote and sustain the growth, health and development of the Young Life mission and ministries in new and deeper ways.

As a part of the Mt. Hood Region, the area will have ideal support, advocacy and networking. We're excited to see how God will move in Newberg Young Life now and for years to come.

Responsibilities:

  • ​Spiritual leadership, supervision, training and recruiting of leaders.
  • Growing and deepening current relationships with George Fox University and area churches, as well as developing new relationships. 
  • Good working relationship with committee. 
  • Working alongside the area administrator to ensure organized and efficient communication with donors, committee, parents and leaders. 
  • Area resource development as well as personal donor development of at least 25k. 
  • Expansion of the area vision and strategic plan to go deeper into existing ministries and wider into new ministries. 
  • Participate in direct ministry in one existing ministry, preferably the Young Life club. 
  • Participation in annual staff events and training events.

Qualifications:

  • ​Deep, abiding faith in Jesus Christ overflowing to a love for people.
    • Includes establishing an active membership in a local congregation.

  • Proven relational skills with youth, young adults and adults. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication. 
    • Written and verbal examples to be supplied upon request.

  • Able to think outside the box and adapt Young Life to fit the needs and characteristics of the area. 
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills. 
  • Proven understanding of finances, budgeting and support raising (must have existing personal donor base). 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. 
  • Minimum of three years experience in Young Life camping. 
  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Three to five years of Young Life staff experience required.
