Africa/Middle East Communications Manager

​The Communications manager will work with the Communications director to develop a strategic communications plan for donor engagement and fundraising. This position will help manage projects (e.g., Impact Report and Women in Leadership Report) and oversee social media, email marketing, podcasts, website updates, and online and in-country training for field communication specialists.

Responsibilities:

Communications Management

  • With the Communications director, develop a strategic communications plan for donor engagement and fundraising. This position will help manage projects (e.g., Impact Report and Women in Leadership Report) and oversee social media, email marketing, podcasts, website updates, and online and in-country training for field communication specialists.
  • Assist the Communications director in developing content for and managing production of key donor communications, including the annual Impact Report and Women in Leadership Report.
  • Develop, manage and implement social media content and related material.
  • Manage weekly “Habari Gani” email marketing to key constituents.
  • Create material for podcasts and videography.
  • Assist the director of Communications with strategic divisional projects.
  • Create content and assist in updating website content in partnership with the communications team.
  • Participate in ongoing communications effort including writing and updating staff and country profiles.
  • Travel to the United States locations one to three times per year to partner and collaborate with other international and U.S. Communications teams.
  • Manage and coordinate communication-related projects with field communications coordinators.
  • Fundraise the budget not covered by the division.

Field Communications Training/Development

  • Manage and develop content for training that includes creative writing in collaboration with the field reporter/training specialist.
  • Work with the field reporter/training specialist to source and develop stories from the field (written, video).
  • Travel to Africa/Middle East one to two times per year to facilitate trainings with international field staff.

Qualifications:

​Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or related experience preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Based in U.S. with travel to Africa and/or Middle East based on agreed upon schedule.

Qualifications Required for the Job

  • Knowledge of and passion for Young Life Africa/Middle East.
  • Experience as Young Life volunteer leader and/or student staff.
  • Experience in communications, journalism and writing. 
  • Confidence and proven abilities in training and public speaking. 
  • Photography and videography skills preferred.
  • Proven skills and experience in management and supervision.
  • Ability to work well independently and also with a team.
  • Proven leadership abilities.
