Communications Coordinator –– San Jose, Costa Rica


We are seeking a creative, flexible, vibrant and enthusiastic person, couple or family to join the team in Costa Rica. The ideal person is a team player who is excited about joining a multicultural team. Must be a lifelong learner and willing to come alongside local leaders. The ideal person will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to develop others and create a team. This person will coordinate communication with donors, help develop administrative systems and development strategies, host Expeditions groups, and more! He or she may also serve in an international school or national club. This person would be joining an established team of Costa Ricans and a few North Americans, with 22 existing clubs, including Young Life College, YoungLives, and Capernaum clubs. San José is a large city with a significant expat community.


  • Demonstrate spiritual leadership on a personal and professional level.
  • Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
  • Recruit and train others to grow a communications team.
  • Raise 100% of financial support per individual budget and maintain good donor-care practices.
  • Support the national director in resource development of the country; meet with donors and oversee fundraising events and/or opportunities.
  • Communicate ministry updates and progress to donor partners.
  • Maintain accurate information on donors for area records.
  • Participate in or lead staff events and training events as required.
  • Develop a communications strategy in partnership with a regional communications team. May provide communications​ support for other countries in Central America as needed.


  • Young Life experience is required.
  • Adventurous and adaptable attitude for a new culture. Must be able to relate, work and build community in a multicultural, multilingual area.
  • Vision and ability to recruit, develop and multiply leaders.
  • Ability to identify and develop fundraising opportunities within the local community and in North America.
  • Must maintain confidentiality.
  • College degree required.
  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Video, design, social media or other communications skills preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred; language school is required if not fluent in Spanish.
  • Willingness to make a three-year minimum commitment.


Housing supplements and cost of living adjustments help make living overseas affordable for international staff. In addition, staff may raise funds and be reimbursed for the purchase of a vehicle, an annual personal trip to see family, pre-K through 12th grade private school education for dependent children, language school, moving expenses, and a one-time bonus of up to two-months’ salary.
