Support and Sustain Young Life in Devastated Communities
Young Life ministry throughout the Texas Gulf Coast has been impacted by Hurricane Harvey, and we anticipate similar disruption for ministry areas along the path of Hurricane Irma.

This page has been created to provide information and updates on the impact of these storms on Young Life ministry. We invite you to learn more and, if you are able, to support and sustain our presence in the lives of kids and their families in affected areas.

Texas Gulf Coast
  • Young Life is on the ground, in the lives of kids in many Texas Gulf Coast communities devastated by Hurricane Harvey.
  • A number of Young Life staff have lost homes.
  • Young Life areas anticipate that local financial support will decrease as many of the families who support our work with teens in their communities have also suffered greatly.

Latin America / Caribbean Islands
Reports from staff in the Dominican Republic (also home to our camp, Pico Escondido), Haiti, St. Croix and Puerto Rico report differing levels of rain, wind and flooding, but all are safe and relieved that they did not experience the worst of Irma. Our staff in St. Thomas do report widespread damage to the island and are still digging out. Impact on Cuba and the Bahamas is not yet known.

Staff in Mexico have reported in after the earthquake, the epicenter of which was roughly sixty miles from our ministry team in Chiapas. All have survived and are focusing on recovery. Impact to ministry to be determined.

We are monitoring Hurricane Irma's impact on Florida on Young Life staff and volunteers in the area, and we'll be updating this page as soon as we have information.
