FAQs for Committee

What does Young Life believe?
Please refer to Young Life's Statement of Faith.

How is Young Life organized?
Young Life has a Board of Trustees that is responsible for the mission's growth, health and direction, as well as supervising the Young Life president. Senior vice presidents, vice presidents and directors oversee public relations, human resources, camping, finances and specific ministry "divisions." Within each division, there are regional directors who oversee "regions" and then area directors who oversee smaller "areas." The local committee works with the area director to ensure the health and direction of the area.

How is Young Life funded?
Young Life is a non-profit organization and is completely funded through the donations of individuals, foundations and businesses. Find out more about ways to give.

What are the responsibilities of a Young Life committee member?

Young Life committee members have four primary responsibilities: prayer, caring for staff and volunteers, promoting Young Life and financial support.

Local staff and volunteers desperately need prayer and support (meals, recreation, encouragement, etc.) in order for the ministry to thrive. The committee is the key component of this support structure.

Additionally, committee members take on the responsibility of promoting Young Life if their community and raising the local annual budget. This is accomplished mostly through relationships committee members have with people in the community. When committee members share their excitement for Young Life, their friends, co-workers and family are more motivated to contribute to the work of the area. Areas receive individual and corporate donations often as a result of these relationships and from events such as banquets and golf tournaments.

How do I become a committee member?
There is no specific protocol for committee member enrollment. Generally, new committee members are asked to join either by a current committee member or by the area director and are asked to make a minimum two-year commitment to serve. Contact your local Young Life office to learn more how they invite new members onto their committees.
