Asian Young Life is an ethnic-specific ministry of Young Life that is committed to making a difference in the lives of Asian American teenagers. Founded in 2003, Asian Young Life has seen extraordinary growth over the past five years and now needs additional staff to carry out the everyday needs of the ministry. The intern will serve under the area director of Asian Young Life and will be supervised by the regional director of the New York Metropolitan Region. Funding is already in place to hire an intern immediately.
Responsibilities:
- Expand existing high school girls' ministry by engaging in regular contact work with girls, by serving in club and in Campaigners and by leading at camp.
- Recruit and train volunteer leaders, with a particular emphasis on female leaders.
- Develop relationships with adults (leaders, committee members, donors, parents, pastors).
- Participate in ongoing training from the area director and from the regional director and participate in other required training programs.
- Pray for the people, kids and mission of Asian Young Life.
Qualifications:
- Loves Jesus Christ and has a personal relationship with Christ.

- Committed to working in the area for two to three years and open to the idea of staying longer.
Benefits:
- Receive a full-time salary (based on experience and qualifications) with a full Young Life benefits package (medical, dental, pension, etc.).
- Be a pioneer in an exciting ministry that has the potential to spread to other parts of the nation and to change the face of Asian American youth ministry in the process.
- Receive first class training with regular supervision from a seasoned area director, monthly training from a 33-year veteran in Young Life, national training with seminary credits available and special training and vision casting with a vice president of Young Life.
- Learn and apply innovative methods of reaching secular Asian American kids.
- Live in an area rich in diversity and home to some of the East Coast's largest Korean communities (and best Korean restaurants) and only minutes from New York City.
Notes:
Bergen County, N.J., has a significant Asian population (about 13 percent) that consists primarily of Koreans, Chinese and Filipinos. The county sits on the Hudson River directly across from New York City and is famous for its many downtown shopping districts and malls. It is one of the 25 wealthiest counties in the U.S. and has some of the most extensive "blue laws" in the nation, requiring most business establishments to shut down on Sundays. Asian Young Life serves kids throughout Bergen County and is the only Asian-specific Young Life ministry in the nation. All of the volunteer leaders and committee members are Asian Americans. There are about 120+ Asian kids at each club meeting and about 40+ Asian kids in Campaigners. See our Web site for more information about the ministry.
