 | What is a “volunteer leader”?
Volunteer leaders are adults in a community who commit to care for middle or high school students through the ministry of Young Life. They generally commit to be a part of Young Life activities such as contact work, club, Campaigners and camp as well as participate in leadership training activities. On average, a leader “volunteers” approximately 10 hours a week to Young Life.

 | How do I become a volunteer leader?
Each Young Life area has a different process for becoming a Young Life leader. If you are interested in volunteering for Young Life, contact the Young Life office nearest you, and the local staff will be able to help you learn more about how Young Life works in your community. |

Yes. The local Young Life staff person will give you an application to complete during the process of becoming a leader.

 | What training do I need to become a volunteer leader?
Each individual area has a tailored training program. When you meet with a local Young Life staff person, they will be able to describe to you how Young Life training is done in your community.

 | What are the responsibilities of a volunteer leader?
Generally, Young Life leaders are asked to give a portion of their time, energy, prayer and life to the pursuit of loving middle and/or high school students into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Activities that leaders normally get involved in include: contact work, club, Campaigners and camp.

 | What are the benefits of being a volunteer leader?
There are too many benefits to list. Volunteer leaders are given the opportunity to firsthand see God at work. They get to play an active role in God bringing a young person literally from death to life. If that is not motivation enough, Young Life volunteer leaders have the blessing of working on a team of fun, energetic, like-minded individuals, which naturally leads to countless fellowship and friendship opportunities. Volunteering with Young Life also provides you the training and skills that will pay dividends for the rest of your life both professionally and socially. Young Life certainly does cost a portion of your time, energy, prayer and life, but what it gives in return is so much more.

 | What is summer staff?
Summer staff is a one-month volunteer work opportunity at a premiere Young Life camp for those who are college-aged. While on summer staff, you might be a ropes course wrangler or work in the snack bar or in the camp store; but regardless, you will meet other young adults who are passionate about serving Christ. You need to have completed at least one year of college in order to apply. Learn more about summer staff opportunities. |

If you do not have a user name and password for the Young Life Staff, Leader and Committee Resources Site, contact your local Young Life staff person, and he or she will be able to get an account set up for you so that you can access all the resources you need on the Web site. |
 | How do I prepare for Young Life camp?
Young Life has an excellent resource called “How to Thrive at Young Life Camp.” Your local Young Life office will be able to get you this book and may have additional resources that will help you as you lead at camp. Also, refer to the Leader Tools section on the Staff, Leader and Committee Resources Site, where you’ll find a lot of information about camping. |
